This course focuses on the physiology of fluid and electrolyte balance. How the body maintains homeostasis and the common health problems that can cause fluid and electrolyte imbalance are examined. Risk factors for fluid imbalance and common health problems that cause potassium and sodium imbalances are presented. The role of the nurse including patient assessment and interventions to manage fluid and electrolyte imbalance in adults are explored. Critical thinking and clinical judgment are assessed through clinical case studies for patients with fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
