This course is for all healthcare professionals in any healthcare setting where medications are administered to children. Basic principles of safe medication administration are applied to the pediatric population including anatomy and physiology in children. Guidelines for safe medication administration in children are applied to acute care and community based healthcare settings. Dosage calculations based on weight and body surface is introduced as a safety principle in pediatric dosages. Specific risks in the pediatric population and strategies to help mitigate medication errors and prevent adverse drug events are presented. The focus is on the roles and responsibilities of nurses in safe medication administration in children.
